How To Protect Yourself If Your Website Designer Disappears.

A Website can be a big investment for a company. So it should be a big concern as to what you can do to protect that investment, if for some reason you no longer have access to your Website designer. Surprisingly this happens a lot. A designer may move away, take another job, or just close-up shop. Then you can be stuck with a Website that has no support and you may not even know where it is hosted.

Here are a few precautions you can take to prevent problems if you were to lose contact with your website designer.

  • Hire a designer with some history. Hiring a family member or friend or someone without professional experience increases your risk.

  • Make sure you have everything set up in your company's name (domain, hosting account, Google Analytics, etc.) and have direct access to the accounts (Username and Password).

  • Have your Website built to include a "Content Management System" that you have the username and password to access. A CMS will allow you or an employee to make simple changes to your site.

  • Avoid custom programming in the construction of the Website. Utilizing Wordpress, Wix or Square allows you access to a larger number of Website professionals if you have to change designers.

You would be surprised how many businesses find themselves dealing with Website issues that could have easily been remedied by having the information above in a file they can access. Don't let yours be one of them.
