The Big Summer Myth

The Big Summer Myth:

Why Market? Everyone Is On Vacation!

I can't tell you how many companies I have worked with, have held up on marketing initiatives because of this belief. While many do take a week or two off and take a vacation in Summer, hardly anyone I know can afford to take the whole Summer off. But many still think Summer is a bad time to advertise. I personally think this is what Sandler Sales calls "head trash." Here are a few things to consider.

  1. Your customers spend more time in the office and are more easily contacted when the temperatures are in the 90's.

  2. Because so many believe the myth, there is a higher likelihood fewer businesses are marketing to customers. (A less crowded playing field.)

  3. Even if a business person is taking a week off, they are more than likely still checking email, looking at their Social Media and accessing the Web.

My recommendation is to not take a vacation from your marketing and advertising in the Summer months. Instead ramp it up and build momentum going into the Fall. – Jim Burris
